SL as platform for applications.

I would present sample systems developed at the UTAD and then moderate the discussion on how SL can be used as a platform for applications, in the sense that a browser or operating system are also platforms.

 
Sample systems that use SL as a platform:

For Education & Training:

- Displaying handball tactics at the teacher's request

- Controlling access to a training session based on registration on a system external to SL

- Tracking SL activities on learning management systems

- Automatically registering presence/absence of students on an external LMS.

 
For business:

- Automated information desk with bots that relay messages to a team via IM or SMS

- Using SL as a platform for market analysis

- Displaying adverts or information panels to avatars based on a decision by systems external to SL
